As a Northern Virginia film newborn photographer, relaxed sessions are my favorite. All of my newborn sessions are baby led, and we focus on capturing baby in a simple way. What does that mean? First, we keep baby in simple outfits for the photo session. I have white swaddles at the studio (and I’ll bring them to you if you choose an in-home newborn session). These swaddles are perfect for keeping baby cozy and happy, and allowing us to capture baby’s adorable features without any distractions.
We usually do a second outfit as well. I have simple white onesies, or you can bring one of your own! This family brought an adorable white onesie. I loved how it photographed, and baby looks so cute in it!
You also have the option to add on film photography to your newborn session. This means I use my medium format film camera (I use a Pentax 645nii) along with real rolls of film that get sent off to a film lap for development. The photos come back as film scans, which just means digital images. I also use my digital camera during all sessions for back up and so you get a wide variety of photos in your final gallery. You can expect at least 45-50 unique photos + some black and white duplicates. But we often end up with more depending on how the session goes!
If you’re interested in booking your own session at my Northern Virginia newborn photography studio, I would love to chat! It’s best to book early as I take a limited number of newborn sessions each month to ensure seamless scheduling once baby arrives. The beginning of your second semester is the best time to book to ensure availability, but you can always reach out just in case I have openings!
