Looking for outfit inspiration for cozy winter family photos? I’ve got you covered! This January session took place at my Northern Virginia photography studio, and I’m obsessed with the cozy winter vibes.
When you choose me as your photographer, you get personalized one-on-one styling advice for your session. It can be so hard to pick out what to wear, and I help take away that stress! Some clients like to meet with me directly, either at the studio or over Zoom or the phone. Others keep it all to email to fit their schedules. I’m flexible with either option. What to Wear for Winter Family Photos | Studio
This beautiful mom had her dress already picked out (a gorgeous sweater dress from Anthropologie). You can’t go wrong with a neutral cream color and cozy material. So we used that as a base and picked everyone else’s outfits from there. I put together a few style boards with outfit ideas using clothes she already had for the kids (with a few suggestions for new items if she wanted to get them).
Why it works: the balance of neutral tones (cream, ivory, oatmeal, and khaki) with a touch of sage green and camel brown pulls everything together in the color palette. It still looks neutral and timeless, but the pops of color bring in some warmth. Choosing knits for winter session automatically adds a cozy feel, so I always recommend them for winter sessions in general. And because the dress was a sweater material, it fits in with the long sleeve look everyone else was sporting. Finally, going barefoot at the studio gave everyone a relaxed, cozy-at-home look that many are looking for with winter sessions.
Since it took place at the studio, she brought a couple different sweater options for dad and we made the final call right there before we started. Sometimes it can be so helpful to see everything all together, and having the changing room right there makes switching things up a breeze.
