Northern VA Newborn Photographer | In-Home Family Photos
Hello! I’m Emily, a Northern VA newborn photographer. I have a natural light photography studio in Sterling, but I can also come to the comfort of your own home for newborn photos! Why do I offer these sessions? As much as I adore the simplicity of a studio session, I equally love the meaning behind taking photos in your own space. Your home is where your family spends the most time together. Taking newborn photos shortly after baby arrives ensures you will always have the memories of those early days!
All of my sessions (both studio and in-home) are lifestyle newborn sessions. This means I simply focus on photographing baby in a simple, natural way. I’ll offer simple swaddling with my white swaddles, but we don’t force baby into unnatural poses or wear elaborate outfits or prop set-ups. Instead, I want these to feel real and authentic. If baby wants to be awake the full session, that’s fine! If baby wants to sleep the entire time, that’s also fine. While we attend to each and every one of baby’s needs (feeding, changing, soothing, etc.), there’s no pressure for baby to do anything that you wouldn’t normally do during this time.
When siblings are involved, we keep those photos light-hearted and fun. As you can imagine, parents are often worried toddlers or older siblings won’t want to cooperate for family photos. However, I encourage you to embrace this unique time in your family! I have a few tricks up my sleeves to get that “smiling at the camera” shot, but it can also be even more meaningful to capture those authentic sibling interactions. Those early days are fleeting, and we’re aiming to capture emotions instead of worrying about picture-perfect.
These newborn photos were some of my favorite. I love the connection between all of the family members!
