This past weekend I traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia to photograph Grace and Josh’s countryside wedding at Mount Ida Farm. It was my first time visiting the property, and I didn’t realize just how beautiful and expansive it would be until I arrived. It was stunning!! With 5,000-acres of gorgeous views, it was a photographer’s dream.
All summer I’ve been waiting for this wedding to get here both because I knew the views would be stunning and I couldn’t wait to hang out with Grace and Josh again. We had a blast during their Shadow Locust Park engagement session earlier this year, and I loved getting to know their families. I have to give a shoutout to Julie, Grace’s mom, for being so helpful throughout the process and on the wedding day!
One of my favorite parts of the entire day was how Grace and Josh chose such meaningful details. To start, they included several family heirlooms. Grace’s wedding dress belonged to her grandmother, and her veil was worn both by her grandmother and great-grandmother. Her engagement ring also belonged to her other great-grandmother, who she is named after. Family is so important, and I love how they included these details into the celebrations.
Each place setting included a canvas on a mini easel, which was such a personal touch. There were quite a few guests, so it was so sweet knowing Grace spent a great deal of time using her talents to thank everyone for celebrating with them. (She also designed the invitations – so talented!!) And she even painted a mini canvas for me, which completely made my day!!! It just goes to show how thoughtful and generous these two are.
They even asked Grace’s brother to play their first dance song on guitar. He did an incredible job, and it was a lovely way to make the song their own. And during their own toast, the bride and groom thanked everyone for coming. Josh served in the Marines, and he wanted to acknowledge other guests who served in the military as well. With several generations in attendance, it was truly special to see. Thank you all so much for your service and making the day so special.
Congratulations, Grace & Josh!! It was so tough narrowing down the photos for this blog post, but I can’t wait for you to re-live the day. Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness as you start on this new adventure together!!
