Newborn Photography Studio in Northern Virginia
My newborn photography studio is one of my favorite places for family photos. Located in Northern, Virginia, it is easily accessible for my DC and Maryland families. I designed it to have everything you need for simple, relaxed, and timeless newborn photos.
First – where is my studio located? The address is 6 Pidgeon Hill Drive Suite 307 Sterling, VA. It’s located in a commercial building, and all meetings are by appointment only.
Why the studio is ideal for newborn photos
With a wall of windows, you’ll get plenty of beautiful, natural light during your newborn session – rain or shine1 For in-home sessions we sometimes have to reschedule if it’s going to be rainy or overcast, but you don’t have to worry about that with the studio. This session was actually taken on an overcast, rainy day with natural light only (no flash or artificial light added).
The studio also has everything we need for simple newborn photos! There’s a baby bed with soft, cozy linens for those individual portraits. I also have a couple beautiful hand-painted canvas backdrops by Willow Canvas in a light neutral gray and a soft blue for those timeless family portraits you want. A couple of unique furniture pieces including an antique love seat, a white futon, a stool, and a chair give us several options if we want to add in a little variety to your photos.
Enjoy access to the client closet of dresses
This is one of those perks my clients LOVE! While I can bring 2-3 dresses for in-home sessions, when you come to the studio you have access to the 60+ ones I have in my collection. You can pick out your dress the day of the session, and I have a changing room right on-site. If you prefer to pick one out ahead of time, that’s fine too. Most of the dresses have a flexible fit so you look and feel beautiful while postpartum. And you don’t have to worry about ordering dresses and hoping they’ll fit right on photo day.

Swaddles, Onesies + Bows Available for Baby
In addition to the dresses, I have a collection of white swaddles, white onesies, and simple baby girl bows in a variety of colors. You’re welcome to bring an outfit for baby if you want, but many of my families like to use what I have to keep things easy. And I can help you style and coordinate outfits for the rest of the family, too! Wardrobe is only provided for mom and baby, but I can help you pick out items from your other children or partner’s closet, or send ideas for new outfits if you want to go shopping.
All sessions are baby-led
This means we will always focus on baby’s needs and let baby’s comfort guide us while “posing.” My photography style is simple and relaxed, highlighting baby’s natural features and placing baby in a simple, comfortable position. I don’t do the elaborate poses that you sometimes see when it comes to newborn photos because those aren’t positions baby would naturally l want to be in. Not only does this give you timeless photos you’ll always cherish because it avoids the trends, but it also lets your baby’s adorable tiny features be the star of the show.
As you can see from these photos, we always aim to capture your emotion of welcoming baby into your family. My background is actually in photojournalism, so this lends itself beautifully to this type of photography! I do provide posing guidance so you’ll know where to stand, what to generally do – but I leave lots of room for you to be together and let baby guide the way.
