Maternity Photos at Meadowlark Gardens | Northern Virginia Film Photographer

There’s something magical about spring in Northern Virginia. The blooms alone are beautiful. Add in golden light and an adorable family, and it’s perfection! We took Kate’s maternity photos at Meadowlark Gardens in Vienna. Her and John are expecting their little one this summer. They wanted to capture this special time as a family of three, and my goodness am I happy with the moments we got! I was already excited before the session as I loved capturing Georgiana’s newborn and milestone photos. She is such a cutie, and has done so well in front of the camera every time.

Kate loves film photography as much as I do, so we made it a priority to include it as much as possible. In fact, almost all of the photos on this page were captured on medium format film. I used Kodak Portra film, and the film scans were developed by PhotoVision. With little ones, you have to be very strategic about which photos you take on film. Each roll of film only has 16 shots, and with an active toddler running around, that can go so quickly!! My secret is to put everyone in the best light, add in some “posing guidance” (although with a toddler, it’s very light guidance sometimes haha), and then wait to press the shutter until the perfect moment. I also use my digital camera as well to ensure I get some of those quicker moments.

When the film scans from this session landed in my inbox, I was thrilled! From the sweet moments as a family to that yummy golden light, it was just as I imagined. Thank you Kate, John, and Georgiana for a wonderful afternoon together! I’ll be seeing them again soon for newborn photos, and I’m already counting down the days.
