I am so excited to share this engagement session with you!! It’s extra special because Sam and Travis are two of our best friends. We’ve known both of them for quite a while, and we are so happy they found each other!

First of all, I’ve known Sam since we were little kids. In fact, our houses were just down the road from each other. Growing up, we played on the same sports teams, went to the same school and shared similar friend groups. Her mom even hemmed my prom dresses! In one way or another, we were always in each others lives.

But it wasn’t until we became roommates our freshman year of college that we really connected.

After surviving our first year of college classes, living on our own and navigating dorm floor drama, we decided to get an apartment with two other friends. And the rest is history!

I can easily say those four years were some of the best years of my life. And it was during those years Sam met Travis! Once they started dating, Travis became close friends with B, so the four of us spent a lot of time together – along with our other friends in the group.

There was never a dull moment in our apartment (especially because Chewy also lived with us), and I will never forget the memories made on that quintessential college campus. Through all the ups and downs, we were always there for each other. And I can’t even count how many life conversations we had over Mother Bear’s pizza, late-night Baked! cookies or a bottle of wine.

After graduation, I moved to Milwaukee to pursue my writing career, and Sam moved to Japan for a teaching position – her dream job. B moved to Texas, and Travis packed his bags to teach English in Spain. After spending so much time together at school, we were all off on our own adventures. And although Sam and Travis parted ways at the time, I always knew they would find each other again.

So as you can imagine, I was thrilled when they got engaged this past spring!!

Travis proposed at Indiana University at their favorite spot (the Sweetheart Tree, enclosed in the Chemistry building’s courtyard). I’m telling you, Bloomington is such a beautiful place to fall in love! When the two of them told me they would be visiting DC in the summer, I couldn’t wait!!

In a surprise turn of events, B actually proposed to me the day before Sam and Travis were scheduled to arrive. Which meant we both got to celebrate our engagements together!! It was so fitting since Sam had actually introduced B and I during our freshman year. We can honestly say we probably wouldn’t have met each other if it hadn’t been for her. And obviously it was the best thing that could have happened!! Needless to say, it was the perfect way to celebrate such a big milestone in our lives.

We also planned to do Travis and Sam’s engagement shoot the last morning of their visit. They chose the Lincoln Memorial since it is a meaningful place for them. As you can see, they had the most beautiful golden hour that morning!! And there may have been a huge exercise class going on at the same time, but Sam and Travis were in their own little world. They did such an amazing job!! It was truly an honor to capture this special time for them.

Enjoy some of my favorite moments below!! Cheers to love, friendship and memories that will last a lifetime! See more Lincoln Memorial photos below.
