You may already know I’m a big fan of printing your wedding photos. It’s one of the best ways to cherish your special day, in my personal opinion. And although printing a few photos to hang on your wall or office is a great way to do that, I love when couples opt for an album that tells the full story of the day. There’s just something extra special about holding it in your hands, carefully going through each page and re-living each and every moment.
To be completely honest, I didn’t realize what a professional wedding album was until I became a professional photographer myself. I always thought an album would be similar to something you could make yourself online through the many printing places available. Well, that all changed when I held my very first Signature Legacy Album in my hands!
If you’re on the fence, ask yourself these three questions to find out if getting one is right for you.
If you’re looking for an heirloom to pass down to your children and grandchildren, this is an easy answer. First, you’ll want a lay-flat design so you don’t have to worry about the binding falling apart or pages separating. Second, archival paper is a must as it prevents the photos from fading over the years. Finally, you’ll want the thickest pages you can find so they don’t bend, break or tear over the years.
I chose a professional album company that has all those features because I truly believe your story was made-to-last. Trust me, you can feel the difference when you flip through each one. Another benefit? Since each page lays flat, you can see the full beauty of a panoramic image. No more awkward photo creases at the middle cutting off part of the scene! Since it’s professionally designed, the layouts will have an editorial look that truly captures your vision for the day. From the details, to the first kiss, to your special exit, all of the very best moments will find a home in your album.
One other little secret: albums of this quality can only be purchased from a professional photography lab – consumer labs simply don’t offer this type of product. So if you want to splurge on something you’ll love for a lifetime, this might be it!
One of the biggest benefits is knowing you won’t have to spend hours and hours (or days) of putting it together. Because you know how it goes. You put it off for a while after the wedding because let’s face it: life gets busy. If you do get around to it, you first have to spend time researching which online site to use and how to download or use their design software. Next, save some time to upload them all into the design program.
Finally, you’re looking at your photos! All you have to do is pick a few favorites, right? Somehow this always takes longer than we think.
In the final stages, you’ll likely find you’re spending more time than you want arranging (and re-arranging) the photos. Trust me, I’ve been there before! When I first started doing weddings, I designed my brother’s album the same way – and it took me more time that I’d like to admit. I mean, how many different photo layouts can you try until you decide this one is the right one? It can be overwhelming to say the least! Having a professional (me!) guide you through everything cuts the entire process down to an hour and a half.
Which leads me to the next question…
If so, having one professionally designed ensures you definitely check this one off! After the honeymoon, it’s not uncommon for this task to get lost in the midst of everything else. Before you know it, you’ll hit your one-year anniversary. Then your two-year anniversary. Then all of a sudden, you have a three-year-old running around the house, and you’re wondering where the time went!
When you purchase a professional album, you won’t have to worry about getting to it “someday.” For my couples, we set a date right away for their album design meeting after their wedding! They join me in my office, or we use a virtual option. I show you a pre-design I made, and together we go through it. I help you swap out photos, add additional spreads, choose your cover and add that editorial touch to the final product. The whole thing takes less than two hours!
After your meeting, I take care of ordering it and having it shipped directly to your home – you don’t have to lift a finger. Instead, you get to focus on the important stuff. Like enjoying newlywed life!
My advice is to ask yourself this: if you know you want an album, and you want to save yourself all that time while getting a luxury product that will stand the test of time, a professional album is a great option for you! On other hand, you may very well be someone who has always dreamed of making your own album. If that’s the case, I don’t mind at all! I would never want to take that away from you. Which is exactly why I include a print release in every wedding collection. So no matter what, you can do what’s best for you!
If you’re still wondering whether an album is right for your story, send me a note! I’d be more than happy to answer your questions, show you samples and help you choose the perfect cover.
