Last week I drove down to Richmond, Virginia to meet up with Gabrielle and Benj for their engagement session. Since they live there, we thought it would be the perfect place to capture this special time! They chose the Virginia State Capitol Building for their formal look, and Libby Hill Park, which overlooks the city, for their casual outfits. It was the perfect mix! They even brought along Bo, their chocolate lab, who did an amazing job in front of the camera. (Thanks to Benj’s mom, Liz, for helping out with Bo! It made a huge difference)!
Even though we were doing the session on a Friday, the Capitol Building was swarming with high schoolers dressed up for prom and taking group pictures. Don’t worry – it didn’t affect the photos at all!! But as it turns out, this isn’t the first time these two college sweethearts had to deal with a high school dance interrupting their plans. A similar situation happened during their proposal too! What are the odds?!
When Benj proposed, he took Gabrielle to a gazebo overlooking a lake under the guise of Christmas photos. That location was full of high schoolers taking homecoming pictures!! So instead, he took her to the country club where they were meeting their parents for dinner. After Gabrielle gave her phone to one of the staff members to take a picture in front of the water there, she turned around to Benj on one knee. To top it off, both of their families and their closest friends were inside waiting for them! I just love how it all turned out, and I’m sure they had a wonderful time celebrating with everyone.
Congratulations, you two! I can’t wait for your wedding next spring. I just know it’s going to be beautiful!
