Location: Oatlands Historic House & Gardens in Leesburg, Virginia
Why I love it for photo sessions: Oatlands Historic House & Gardens is one of those unique locations with a little bit of everything. The manicured garden offers many spots for those seeking greenery and nature. Archways and stairways add even more variety to your photos. The historic manor, in its soft neutral tones, is also a grand background. You can even see the mountains in the distance – a personal favorite spot to end the session.
Best time to take photos here: Morning and evening are both gorgeous! The garden also is beautiful a little earlier than sunset if you have little ones. Golden hour offers the most flattering light, and it definitely makes this stunning location even more beautiful.
Is a permit required? Normally a $125 photography day-pass photography permit is required. However, I have a seasonal photography pass for 2023. So if I’m your photographer, you don’t have to worry about paying the permit!
Parking info: There is easy parking right on-site.
Are dogs allowed? Dogs are not allowed in the formal garden, but they are allowed in other areas on the property. Please let me know beforehand. Also, please be mindful of picking up after your dog.
Are there bathrooms on-site? Yes.
How can we book a portrait session with you?
First, fill out my contact form here! I’ll be in touch within 48-business hours with all the details (although, usually I get back to you sooner). My email will include pricing info, my earliest spots available to book, and everything else. If you are ready to book at that point, you can easily do so online! If you want to chat first, you’re always welcome to set up a phone call or an appointment at my photography studio in Sterling to chat.
My portrait session calendar typically fills up 1-4 months in advance, with outdoor sessions taking place mid-April through mid-November. I recommend booking early to ensure you get a spot! In the meantime, here are more examples of photos taken at Manassas Battlefield National Park.
