One of my favorite parts of photographing couples in the DMV is the variety of locations. One day I’m shooting in downtown DC at the monuments, and the next I’m out at Shenandoah National Park taking in the gorgeous scenery. There are so many great spots, it’s easy to find the perfect one for your story! Here are a few of my favorite engagement session spots in Northern Virginia.
If you’re looking for cobblestone roads, waterfront views and a charming East Coast feel, Old Town Alexandria might be the perfect location to you! It still gives you a city feel without the crowds in DC, so you can do your session at sunrise or just before sunset. There are also several parks in the area, which makes it a favorite for those who want a mix of greenery and architecture.
Located in Bealeton, Virginia, this Georgian Estate is all about the elegance. I love it so much, we even chose it for our own engagement session!
Note: this location does require a permit, but their team is incredibly easy to work with.
If you want lots of greenery and flowers, the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens might be perfect for you. It’s my favorite during the spring and fall, but the summer season also has gorgeous light.
Note: you do need a permit at this location, but it’s really simple and affordable to get through their office.
If stopping by wineries on the weekend is your thing, you might want to consider having your session at one! Popular spots include La Grange Winery, Stonetower Winery, the Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyards and Morais Vineyards.
This location is the perfect laid-back location for couples who love nature. Feeling even more adventurous? Shenandoah National Park is also a gorgeous option!
Featuring rolling pastures, woodlands and a historic farm, Sky Meadows State Park is a scenic way to enjoy nature. They do require a permit now, so I recommend getting one before the session! I can walk you through the process.
This hidden gem is a great spot for low-key engagement sessions! In the summer months it’s full of gorgeous roses, and it also has pathways and an arbor.
Looking for epic views? Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park has you covered.
If you’re having trouble deciding, think about what you both enjoy doing as a couple. If you love hiking and have a favorite trail or park, that can be a great spot for photos! Did you fall in love with a local venue while searching for your wedding? We can always reach out and see if we can get permission and shoot there! Local parks, your favorite date spot or even your neighborhood are all good options.
I’m always open to new ideas and would love to hear what you think! You can also view more Northern Virginia engagement sessions here on the blog. If you have any questions or can’t decide, feel free to send me a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
